Baked in-store, every day
Bread, pies, pastries and cakes are made from scratch in the Thirroul bakehouse each morning - the way the Flemings always did it.
Our story
Sareven Bakehouse has been a cornerstone of Thirroul Village since 1983. Two generations of bakers, the same ovens, the same commitment to bread and pastry made from scratch each morning.
Rick and Carol Fleming open the bakery in Thirroul Village on the NSW Illawarra coast. For more than 35 years it becomes a local institution for bread, pies and old-fashioned cakes.
Pastry Chef Steve White and his wife Sarah purchase the bakery. The new name - Sareven - is a blend of Sarah and Steven. They continue the Flemings tradition of daily in-store baking.
The bakehouse is celebrated regionally for its award-winning traditional and gourmet pies, fresh sourdough, and a rotating case of tarts, cakes and pastries. Rated 4.4 to 4.5 out of 5 across review platforms and ranked among Thirroul's top dining spots on TripAdvisor.
What stays the same
Bread, pies, pastries and cakes are made from scratch in the Thirroul bakehouse each morning - the way the Flemings always did it.
Our traditional and gourmet pies have earned a reputation across the Illawarra. They're the reason many locals start their day with us.
Sponge cakes, neenish tarts, vanilla slices, Chelsea tea buns - the timeless favourites you remember, still made the traditional way.
A local landmark
Whether you’ve just stepped off the South Coast Line, finished a swim at the beach, or are walking the pram up the hill, the bakehouse door is open. Our Instagram bio sums it up: “pies cakes bread coffee — everything made and baked in-store located in iconic Thirroul village.”
